Thorneside was once a railway siding when the line was first built more than 100 years ago to transport goods between Cleveland and Brisbane. Today, it remains as a commuter link to the city of Brisbane and to Cleveland, gateway to North Stradbroke Island. It retains a charm of its own with numerous walkways and cycling paths winding their way through the leafy suburb.
Birdwatching  Waterloo Bay is part of the Moreton Bay Marine Park, one of Australia’s most important habitats for shorebirds. The shoreline offers numerous opportunites to observe different local and migratory species.

Beth Boyd Park is situated just a few minutes stroll down the road from The Friendly Chat Bed and Breakfast and provides beautiful Bay views with an extensive park to keep everyone entertained. It is a great place for family gatherings with undercover picnic tables and electric BBQs. The pirate ship and the children’s playgrounds are very popular, with pedal power rides, a basketball halfcourt ,an exercise area and a beach volleyball court. The twin slides down the hill are always popular!

The William Taylor Sports ground  is located next to Mooroondu Point with facilities for cricket, tennis, soccer, netball, petanque and a skate park. Thorneside Community Hall is within these grounds and can be hired for functions.
